Evacuation centers

Open only when announced

Evacuation centers open only when officials announce them, and not every center opens for every storm. Check the official list of open centers before you leave home. Bring your own bedding, food, water, and medicines.

The council says the Local Disaster Management Group sets up a place of refuge or evacuation centre at its discretion and these have only the bare essentials. Do not assume any is open. Check RegionWatch, local radio, or call the council.
