Mecklenburg County hurricane guide¶
Mecklenburg County Emergency Services runs the county's emergency management program, and the County Administrator is the Director of Emergency Management. Sign up for Alert Mecklenburg for severe weather and evacuation alerts. The county says the Emergency Management Coordinator works with Social Services to open emergency shelters when a major emergency calls for it.

Evacuation centers¶
Open only when announced
Evacuation centers open only when officials announce them, and not every center opens for every storm. Check the official list of open centers before you leave home. Bring your own bedding, food, water, and medicines.
Mecklenburg County says the Emergency Management Coordinator, together with the Department of Social Services, opens emergency shelters when a major emergency shows a need. The county page does not list shelters. Check Alert Mecklenburg for any announcement.
Cities and towns¶
Each city has its own services and some have their own alerts. The county's evacuation zones, evacuation centers, and emergency alerts cover everyone, in every city and in unincorporated areas.
