Evacuation zones¶
Gloucester County is in Virginia's Know Your Zone system, which uses zones A to D. Enter your street address on the state lookup to see your zone. The county's weather hazards page says that if you live in a mandatory evacuation zone and officials tell you to evacuate, you should do so immediately. The county's flood page lists coastal flooding from hurricanes and nor'easters, rain-driven flooding, dam failure, and water main failure as flood causes.
Evacuation centers¶
Open only when announced
Evacuation centers open only when officials announce them, and not every center opens for every storm. Check the official list of open centers before you leave home. Bring your own bedding, food, water, and medicines.
The county's emergency shelter is at Peasley Middle School, 2885 Hickory Fork Road. County officials decide whether opening it is warranted and post information on the county website. Do not go to the school until the county announces that the shelter is open. Not all shelters accept pets, so plan for your pets ahead of time.
These are locations the county has used or designated as evacuation centers. They are listed for planning only.
