Greenwood County hurricane guide

The Greenwood County Emergency Management Department leads the county's emergency management program to reduce loss of life and property and to prepare for, respond to, and recover from hazard events. The county sends alerts through the Genasys Emergency Management (GEM) system, which it calls its primary tool for severe weather alerts and evacuation notices. It is an inland county with no coastal evacuation zones, so follow county alerts for storm instructions.

Evacuation centers

Open only when announced

Evacuation centers open only when officials announce them, and not every center opens for every storm. Check the official list of open centers before you leave home. Bring your own bedding, food, water, and medicines.

Greenwood County did not publish a standing list of shelters on the pages checked. Shelters open only when announced, so do not go to a site until it is announced as open. Check county alerts and the state shelter page for open shelters.
