Marion County hurricane guide

Marion County Emergency Management in Buena Vista coordinates disaster planning, response, and recovery for the county, and may ask the Governor for a State of Emergency when local responders are overwhelmed. Buena Vista is the only incorporated city. The county offers a floodplain map and says to sign up for Marion Alerts.

Evacuation centers

Open only when announced

Evacuation centers open only when officials announce them, and not every center opens for every storm. Check the official list of open centers before you leave home. Bring your own bedding, food, water, and medicines.

Marion County's pages do not list shelters. Wait for an announcement through Marion Alerts before going to any shelter.

Cities and towns

Each city has its own services and some have their own alerts. The county's evacuation zones, evacuation centers, and emergency alerts cover everyone, in every city and in unincorporated areas.
