Glynn County hurricane guide¶
Glynn County Emergency Management & Homeland Security Agency (GCEM-HSA) plans for hurricanes and other disasters in Glynn County and runs an interactive EMA map showing storm surge, outages, and response during an emergency. The county tells residents that emergency managers will notify neighborhoods when it is time to evacuate, using Emergency Alert System messages, cell phones, TV, and CodeRED. Evacuation zones¶
Glynn County's EMA dashboard map shows storm surge during an emergency. The county's evacuation page does not describe zone letters or routes, so use the dashboard and the alerts to learn whether your address is told to leave.
Evacuation centers¶
Open only when announced
Evacuation centers open only when officials announce them, and not every center opens for every storm. Check the official list of open centers before you leave home. Bring your own bedding, food, water, and medicines.
Glynn County says officials will use Emergency Alert System messages on local radio, cell phones, TV, and CodeRED to give instructions, which may include your nearest evacuation route and nearest public shelter. This page does not name shelters, and none are listed here. Do not go to a site until it is announced as open. Bring a battery-powered radio, which the county calls your single greatest information source.
Help to evacuate¶
- Glynn County Health Department, Office of Community Services: If you have a medical problem and will need help evacuating, call now with your name, address, and phone number, not when the storm is approaching. The county says the list assures you receive help evacuating if the need arises. Phone: 912-264-3961. Website.
- Ride assistance: The county says buses or other transit will be made available to people who do not drive or have no car. A Ride Assistance Form is linked from the evacuation page. Website.
Cities and towns¶
Each city has its own services and some have their own alerts. The county's evacuation zones, evacuation centers, and emergency alerts cover everyone, in every city and in unincorporated areas.
