Yavapai County hurricane guide

The Yavapai County Office of Emergency Management (YCOEM) runs the county's emergency alerts and evacuation zones. The county Flood Control District says to stay away from natural streambeds, arroyos, and other drainage channels during and after rainstorms, and never to drive through water on a road. Moisture from distant tropical storms can bring heavy rain and flash flooding to the county's washes, creeks, and burn scars.

Evacuation centers

Open only when announced

Evacuation centers open only when officials announce them, and not every center opens for every storm. Check the official list of open centers before you leave home. Bring your own bedding, food, water, and medicines.

During an emergency the county Office of Emergency Management coordinates with non-governmental organizations to set up sheltering, and it must know about an incident and the need for services to activate them. The county does not publish a standing list. Watch county alerts, and do not go to a site until it is announced.

Help to evacuate

  • Access and functional needs registration: The county asks residents who or whose family have specific needs in an emergency to register through its Access and Functional Needs page on the county emergency management site. Website.

Cities and towns

Each city has its own services and some have their own alerts. The county's evacuation zones, evacuation centers, and emergency alerts cover everyone, in every city and in unincorporated areas.
