Wichita County hurricane guide¶
The Wichita County Emergency Management Office, in Wichita Falls, plans for hazards across the county. The county says its natural hazards include tornadoes, floods, and severe storms, so a hurricane would reach this North Texas county only as rain and wind from the remains of a storm. The office keeps the county emergency plan and links Code RED alert details, flood damage prevention documents, and storm shelter registration. Call 911 for emergencies.

Evacuation centers¶
Open only when announced
Evacuation centers open only when officials announce them, and not every center opens for every storm. Check the official list of open centers before you leave home. Bring your own bedding, food, water, and medicines.
The county does not list public shelters on this page. It offers free registration for private storm shelters, such as below-ground shelters, for residents of the rural areas, so responders can check on them after a storm. Inside the cities of Burkburnett, Electra, and Iowa Park, contact that city's police department. For Wichita Falls, call the Wichita Falls Fire Department. Do not go to a building unless officials say it is open.
