Walton County hurricane guide

Walton County Emergency Management helps the community prepare for, respond to, recover from, and reduce the risk of emergencies and disasters of all kinds. Walton is inland, east of Atlanta. The county offers CivicReady weather alerts by phone, text, and email, and says it did so because sirens cannot be heard by everyone indoors or out of earshot.

Evacuation centers

Open only when announced

Evacuation centers open only when officials announce them, and not every center opens for every storm. Check the official list of open centers before you leave home. Bring your own bedding, food, water, and medicines.

Walton County's emergency management pages do not publish a list of storm shelters. Check CivicReady alerts and the county website to find out whether any shelter is open, and do not go to one until it is announced.

Cities and towns

Each city has its own services and some have their own alerts. The county's evacuation zones, evacuation centers, and emergency alerts cover everyone, in every city and in unincorporated areas.
