Adams County hurricane guide

The Adams County Department of Emergency Services in Gettysburg runs county emergency management and the 9-1-1 center, and works with each municipal emergency coordinator. Adams County is inland, so the remains of tropical storms are mainly a flash flood and stream flood risk. Sign up for county alerts before a storm.

Evacuation centers

Open only when announced

Evacuation centers open only when officials announce them, and not every center opens for every storm. Check the official list of open centers before you leave home. Bring your own bedding, food, water, and medicines.

The Adams County emergency services pages do not list standing shelters for floods or storms. Shelters are announced when an emergency happens, so do not go to a site until the county announces it. Follow county alerts and local news, and call the emergency services office if you need help.

Cities and towns

Each city has its own services and some have their own alerts. The county's evacuation zones, evacuation centers, and emergency alerts cover everyone, in every city and in unincorporated areas.
