Walker County hurricane guide

Walker County's E-911 and Emergency Management department keeps the county's Emergency Operations Center, which gives county and city services one place to coordinate during potential events. Walker is in the northwest corner of Georgia, next to Tennessee and Alabama. The county offers SirenGPS text and app alerts for severe weather and community alerts such as road closures, and links a flood map viewer on its site.

Evacuation centers

Open only when announced

Evacuation centers open only when officials announce them, and not every center opens for every storm. Check the official list of open centers before you leave home. Bring your own bedding, food, water, and medicines.

Walker County's emergency management page does not publish a list of storm shelters. Check SirenGPS alerts and the county website to find out whether any shelter is open, and do not go to one until it is announced.

Cities and towns

Each city has its own services and some have their own alerts. The county's evacuation zones, evacuation centers, and emergency alerts cover everyone, in every city and in unincorporated areas.
