Cambria County hurricane guide

The Cambria County Department of Emergency Services includes the county Emergency Management Agency and the 911 Communications Center, which serve the county's 63 municipalities around the clock from Ebensburg. The county sends emergency alerts through CodeRED, and residents must enroll their own contact information to receive them. The county's emergency management work covers 21 medium hazard water dams, among other things.

  • CodeRED (Cambria Alerting and Response Engagement System): Free emergency alerts by phone, text, or email, and a mobile app. Use the Enroll for Alerts button on the county page. County officials say not to assume they have your contact information, so enroll before a storm. If you have no internet, call 814-472-2050 on weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. to give your information. Evacuation centers

Open only when announced

Evacuation centers open only when officials announce them, and not every center opens for every storm. Check the official list of open centers before you leave home. Bring your own bedding, food, water, and medicines.

Cambria County does not publish a standing list of shelters on the pages we checked. Enroll in CodeRED and check county and local alerts to find out what is open. Call the Emergency Management Agency at 814-472-2050 on weekdays with questions.
