Clay County Emergency Management is led by the county Emergency Management Director in Hayesville, who is listed on the county's Emergency Medical Services page. This is a mountain county with no storm surge evacuation zones. Sign up for Clay County's Nixle emergency alerts before a storm. The county also offers VS Connects Safety Updates, public safety messages sent to your phone from 911, Emergency Management, the Sheriff, Fire, and NCDOT.

Evacuation centers

Open only when announced

Evacuation centers open only when officials announce them, and not every center opens for every storm. Check the official list of open centers before you leave home. Bring your own bedding, food, water, and medicines.

Clay County does not publish a list of shelters on its website. Watch Nixle and VS Connects messages and county announcements for information about shelters, and do not go to a site until it is announced.

Cities and towns

Each city has its own services and some have their own alerts. The county's evacuation zones, evacuation centers, and emergency alerts cover everyone, in every city and in unincorporated areas.
