Fayette County hurricane guide

The Fayette County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) in Fayette coordinates storm preparedness for the county and its towns. Fayette County is inland, far from the coast, so the main dangers when the remains of a tropical storm move through are heavy rain, flash flooding, high winds, and tornadoes. Sign up for Fayette County ALERT before a storm.

Evacuation centers

Open only when announced

Evacuation centers open only when officials announce them, and not every center opens for every storm. Check the official list of open centers before you leave home. Bring your own bedding, food, water, and medicines.

Fayette County does not publish a list of hurricane shelters. The county lists storm shelters and sirens, which are tornado shelters, in a table and on an interactive map. Check county alerts or call the EMA to find out whether one is open.
