Evacuation zones

Virginia Beach uses Virginia's Know Your Zone evacuation zones A through D, and the city announces which zones must evacuate. The city lists these evacuation routes: I-64 and I-264, I-664 North through the Monitor-Merrimac Memorial Bridge-Tunnel, US 17 North, US 58 West, US 460 West, and State Route 10 West. The Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel is not a designated hurricane evacuation route because high winds make it unsafe. Only the governor can order a lane reversal on I-64.

Evacuation centers

Open only when announced

Evacuation centers open only when officials announce them, and not every center opens for every storm. Check the official list of open centers before you leave home. Bring your own bedding, food, water, and medicines.

The city says an evacuation center is a measure of last resort, only certain centers may be open during an emergency, and locations and times are posted on the city website and social media and on local TV and radio. Do not go until a center is announced as open. The city page lists no standing addresses, so call 757-385-1077 or VB311 at 757-385-3111.
