Nelson County hurricane guide¶
The Nelson County Department of Emergency Services, led by the Director of Emergency Services, plans for disasters and helps residents prepare. Nelson is a mountainous Blue Ridge county, so the main tropical storm risk is flash flooding and landslides from heavy rain on steep ground, plus wind and power outages. The county says if you are in a flood prone area during a Flash Flood Warning, move immediately to high ground. Sign up for the county's emergency alerts before a storm.
