Ore City is a small city in Upshur County, about 10 miles north of Gilmer and near Lake O' the Pines, far inland in East Texas. Tropical storms can still bring heavy rain, flooding, strong winds, and tornadoes. The city has an emergency management coordinator, its own police department with officers on duty around the clock, a volunteer fire department, and city water, sewer, and trash service.
