Rancho Viejo hurricane guide¶
Rancho Viejo is a small town in Cameron County that strongly recommends residents evacuate when officials advise it, and no shelters open within the town. After a storm, residents get back in only through a police checkpoint on Rancho Viejo Drive. The town has its own police department, on duty 24 hours a day.

What to know in Rancho Viejo¶
- The town's Emergency Management Director decides when residents may return, after fire, police, and utility crews inspect the area. Everyone must re-enter through a law enforcement checkpoint on Rancho Viejo Drive and show proof of residency, such as a driver's license or utility bill. All other entry points are closed to vehicles and pedestrians.
- After a hurricane, volunteers can sign up at the Town Municipal Office to help clear roads. The town has little equipment, so chain saws, axes, and shovels are welcome.
