Hampton County hurricane guide

Hampton County Emergency Management, in the town of Hampton, plans for and leads the county's response to natural and man-made disasters. The county lists Hurricane Season as June 1 to November 30 among its goals and keeps a list of school shelter sites. Follow county alerts and the state Know Your Zone and hurricane pages for storm-specific guidance.

Evacuation centers

Open only when announced

Evacuation centers open only when officials announce them, and not every center opens for every storm. Check the official list of open centers before you leave home. Bring your own bedding, food, water, and medicines.

Hampton County lists the five schools below on its Shelters page. The county does not say when or whether any will open, so do not go to one until the county announces it as open, and check county alerts and the sheriff's app. The page marks each with a type code (S1, S2, or S3) that it does not explain.
