Somerset County hurricane guide

The Somerset County Emergency Management Agency coordinates mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery for disasters and emergencies and advises the County Commissioners during incidents. The county keeps a 2025 hazard mitigation plan and a county animal response team. The county's pages do not publish evacuation zones, flood guidance, an alert signup, or a shelter list, so follow county and municipal announcements during a storm.

Evacuation centers

Open only when announced

Evacuation centers open only when officials announce them, and not every center opens for every storm. Check the official list of open centers before you leave home. Bring your own bedding, food, water, and medicines.

Somerset County's emergency management page does not publish a list of shelters. Check county and municipal announcements to learn whether any shelter is open. Do not go to a site until it is announced.

Cities and towns

Each city has its own services and some have their own alerts. The county's evacuation zones, evacuation centers, and emergency alerts cover everyone, in every city and in unincorporated areas.
