Madison hurricane guide

Madison is a city in southern Madison County, north of Jackson and far from the coast. Tornadoes, high wind, and flooding from the remains of tropical storms are the main risks. The city has its own police and fire departments and runs water and sewer service for much of the city.

What to know in Madison

  • Homes near a creek can flood. Call City Hall to find out the flood risk for your property. Dumping trash or debris into storm inlets, streams, ditches, or creeks is against city rules because it blocks drainage.
  • Put tree branches at the curb by your trash. Branches can be no longer than 6 feet or thicker than 10 inches. Debris from a tree service or landscaper must be hauled away by that company.
