The York County Emergency Management Agency (YCEMA) in Alfred works with the local emergency management directors of all 29 York County towns. It sends alerts through Rave Mobile Safety and lists coastal flood guidance and shelter openings among the alert types. Maine Emergency Management says the coastal areas of York and Cumberland counties are the most likely in the state to suffer erosion from storms. Sign up before a storm.

Evacuation centers open only when officials announce them, and not every center opens for every storm. Check the official list of open centers before you leave home. Bring your own bedding, food, water, and medicines.

Hurricane and storm shelters open only when officials announce them. Check alerts from your county and town, or call 211, to learn what is open. Do not travel to a site until it is announced.
