Rabun County hurricane guide

The Rabun County Emergency Management Agency provides mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery for natural and man-made disasters. Its Search and Rescue division responds to swift water accidents, technical rescues, boating accidents, and lost people in remote areas. The county offers Code Red alert signup.

Evacuation centers

Open only when announced

Evacuation centers open only when officials announce them, and not every center opens for every storm. Check the official list of open centers before you leave home. Bring your own bedding, food, water, and medicines.

The county does not publish a standing list of shelters. Shelters are announced for each event, so do not go to a site until the county says it is open. Check the county's alerts and website for announcements.

Cities and towns

Each city has its own services and some have their own alerts. The county's evacuation zones, evacuation centers, and emergency alerts cover everyone, in every city and in unincorporated areas.
