Long County hurricane guide¶
The Long County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) in Ludowici works with the Long County Fire Department. Long County is inland from the coast but is on the Georgia Coastal Health District hurricane registry. The county offers a storm response dashboard and a storm surge map built on NOAA SLOSH data, and says to check the National Hurricane Center, National Weather Service, and local emergency management for evacuation instructions.

Evacuation centers¶
Open only when announced
Evacuation centers open only when officials announce them, and not every center opens for every storm. Check the official list of open centers before you leave home. Bring your own bedding, food, water, and medicines.
Long County's pages do not describe shelters or evacuation orders. The county says to check the National Hurricane Center, the National Weather Service, and local emergency management for evacuation instructions during a hurricane. Wait for an official announcement before going to any shelter.
Help to evacuate¶
- Hurricane Registry (Georgia Coastal Health District): For residents with functional, access, or medical needs who cannot evacuate on their own. Apply before a storm. Applications stop 72 hours before tropical storm force winds arrive. Long County is one of the eight counties on the registry. Website.
Cities and towns¶
Each city has its own services and some have their own alerts. The county's evacuation zones, evacuation centers, and emergency alerts cover everyone, in every city and in unincorporated areas.
