Evacuation zones

Delaware uses evacuation zones A, B, C, and D for low-lying areas that can flood or get storm surge. Kent County sends you to PrepareDE to find your zone. Your zone tells you when and how to evacuate. Use only the routes local officials give you, and see DelDOT's map of evacuation routes.

Evacuation centers

Open only when announced

Evacuation centers open only when officials announce them, and not every center opens for every storm. Check the official list of open centers before you leave home. Bring your own bedding, food, water, and medicines.

Kent County does not publish a standing list of shelters on its preparedness page. Shelters open only when officials announce them. Watch DENS and county alerts to learn what is open, and treat a shelter as a last resort after arranging to stay with friends or family outside the danger area. Call the Emergency Operations Center at 302-735-3465 with questions.

Cities and towns

Each city has its own services and some have their own alerts. The county's evacuation zones, evacuation centers, and emergency alerts cover everyone, in every city and in unincorporated areas.
