Northampton County hurricane guide

Northampton County Emergency Management plans for emergencies, coordinates the response with fire, law enforcement, EMS, and public works during disasters, and supports recovery afterward. The county is inland, so it has no storm surge evacuation zones, but tropical storms and hurricanes can still bring flooding, strong winds, fallen trees, and power outages. Follow county Emergency Management for instructions during a storm, and call 911 only for emergencies.

Evacuation centers

Open only when announced

Evacuation centers open only when officials announce them, and not every center opens for every storm. Check the official list of open centers before you leave home. Bring your own bedding, food, water, and medicines.

Northampton County does not publish a list of hurricane shelters on its website. Do not go to a shelter unless officials announce that it is open. Watch the county Emergency Management Facebook page and local news for instructions. If your home floods easily or is a mobile home, plan ahead to stay with friends or family in a safer place.
